Attend Shell’s Freedom Over Texas Celebration
Freedom Over Texas is Houston’s signature 4th of July celebration, averaging 50,000 people in attendance and being televised live in Houston. It is a six-hour-long event filled with tradition, festivities, and live concert stages along Allen Parkway, featuring local and regional entertainment as well as a musically-choreographed fireworks finale. Moreover, it features a philanthropy aspect, in which a percentage of food and beverage sales made from the event will be donated to the Houston Food Bank for those with food insecurity. Join Freedom of Texas for hours of fun as well as a way to give back to the community!
Join City of Nassau Bay’s Celebrations
If you’re willing to travel a little, you’ll be in for a treat at the City of Nassau Bay as they celebrate the 4th of July with a fun-filled day of activities. Prepare your water guns and hoses for Water Wars, a city-wide water fight that you can join on foot, on bicycles, or even on wagons or golf carts. After you towel off, you can head down to David Braun Park for live music, food vendors, and a pie contest. You can enjoy local music acts and homemade food, and even enter the pie contest yourself. There will also be a parade that you can join with your parade float or bicycle to honor Nassau Bay’s veterans, or if you’re a veteran yourself, you can RSVP for your spot in the parade. Finally, end the day with a stunning fireworks show over the lake.
Enjoy Houston’s Symphony’s Star-Spangled Salute
If fireworks and noisy crowds aren’t your cups of tea, a good alternative is Houston Symphony’s annual concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre. With performances of classic 4th of July staples like Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever and Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, enjoy the sound of classical music as you lounge under the stars with your loved ones.
