Many people have very special grandparents in their lives that make every day more beautiful. You know that you love your grandparents, but how often do you get to celebrate them and find a way to say “thank you” for all the joy they bring to your life. September 9th is National Grandparent’s Day and is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time together. Whether you a grandparent looking to plan a spectacular day with your grandchild, or a grandchild wanting to express to your grandparent just how much they mean to you – here are a few ideas that will turn your National Grandparents’ Day celebrations into a memory you will cherish dearly.
Go for a Picnic
Enjoy the last of the summer days by enjoying an outdoor picnic at your local park, beach, or community garden. You can have fun setting up the picnic basket together, and afterward enjoy relaxing and eating in nature! Have fun picking out some of your favorite picnic classics such as cheese and fruit, as well as whatever else you are craving! All you will need is a basket or cooler, food, and a blanket to lay on! You can also bring books, games, music and other activities.
Make a Scrapbook or Album
Remember the days before smartphones and digital pictures, there were actual prints and photo albums? You can create an album that combines the old with the new. Simply print out photos that you have stored on your phone or computer, and gather some old pictures you have from shoeboxes or old albums. This intergenerational album will be a unique way to blend old school with new school. It will also be a great bonding experience going down memory lane and laughing at all the silly photos.
Learn Something New Together
This is a fun intergenerational game where both parties can learn. Grandparents have gained a lot of wisdom since they were young that they can pass on to the kids. And conversely, kids are so smart and have such a unique perspective on life that grandparents may find that they learn something too!
Visit a Local Sporting Event
A sporting event is such an exciting way to spend time together. It doesn’t matter if it’s a local high school event or a professional league, hop online and search for upcoming games in your local area. You’ll both get to experience wearing your favorite team’s gear, eating stadium food and a healthy dose of competition.
No matter how you decide to spend National Grandparent’s Day, it’s important to show the people we love in our lives how much we truly mean to them.
