The move to a Texas retirement community is a big step in life. There are so many things to consider and talk about with your family members. You also need to give yourself time to navigate the transition after moving into your apartment home, as well as get used to the new lifestyle and environment. Here are four useful tips that can help you to have a smooth and pleasant transition after your move.
Make New Friends
Retirement is liberating! You no longer need to attend lengthy meetings at work or run arduous errands related to your job. On the other hand, some retirees may not know what to do with all the time they have on their hands. They may experience loneliness, especially when they are living on their own and lack interaction with friends and families.
If one of your reasons for moving to a retirement community is to socialize with others, then why not go out and meet some new people in the community? As the saying, it is the people that make the place. In our Independent Living community, we organize many activities where you can meet new people, introduce yourself and befriend them. By building relationships with others, you’ll be able to settle down in our community in no time!
Pursue Hobbies and Develop New Skills
Moving to our Independent Living community does not mean that you have to change your routines or give up your hobbies. Are there any activities or events that you find interesting? Call on your new friends to enjoy all the enriching activities that we have lined up for you. There is always something fun going on in our retirement community, including themed parties and dances, educational seminars and fitness programs. If you want to explore a new interest and acquire new skills, just contact our team members for more information about different learning opportunities.
Decorate Your New Living Space
When you meet with our Senior Lifestyle Counselor for the first time, you will probably have the consultation in your home. By doing this, we can take photos of your living area and learn about your preferences in decoration. Once you have moved into your new apartment home, we encourage you to do up your new living space. To help with your transition, you can decorate your new home according to your previous space. Creating a familiar environment can certainly bring more comfort and reduce stress and anxiety. Try to list the items that are important to you and bring them along when you move into your new home. Here are some suggested items that may help you to feel more at ease in your new environment:
- Family photos
- Cozy blanket
- Favorite wall art
- Favorite books
